What is the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) curriculum?

The Australian Qualifications Framework, AQF for short, was first introduced in 1995 and sets out guidelines and procedures to regulate qualifications within the education and training system in Australia. The AQF was designed to fortify the national system of qualifications consisting of higher education, schools, and vocational education and training.

The AQF provides a multifaceted policy encompassing the learning objectives and outcomes for each AQF level, the requirements needed for issuing AQF qualifications, the requirements for student qualifications, qualifications for student pathways and much more.

The AQF also assures that it meets national quality and regulatory standards. All AQF qualifications are assessed and assured through government accreditation processes, and all education establishments that issue AQF qualifications have been authorized to do so.

The administering of the AQF is provided by the Australian Government Department of Education, Skills, and Employment in conjunction with the states and territories.

Key Focus of the Curriculum

“One of the key objectives of the AQF is to facilitate pathways to and through formal qualifications.” The AQF helps to provide a means to individuals to accommodate their diversity of objectives through the Australian education and training sector. The AQF was designed to provide support to individuals and their long-term educational needs, wants, and objectives by setting out pathways for them to achieve such goals through education and training.

The main focus of the Australian Qualifications Framework is to provide and ensure consistency in knowledge and quality throughout the nation and to ensure national recognition of each qualification and the standard of education each qualification provides.

There are 11 levels that the AQF provides:
