Main Responsibilities:

  1. Carry out the timetable of classes assigned by the DOS
  2. Give lessons to the highest standards of English language teaching
  3. Become familiar with the programs and courses of study
  4. Develop and use suitable supplementary materials as necessary
  5. Use audio/video materials in classes
  6. Expose students to the use of CALL, and the Internet for language learning purposes
  7. Begin and end classes on time
  8. Prepare lessons and equipment in advance for all classes
  9. Become familiar with and implement all course management procedures as directed by EF English First guidelines
  10. Administer, correct and record the results of progress reports, tests and assessments for students
  11. Substitute for absent colleagues, perhaps at short notice, on or off-site
  12. Be responsible for students’ welfare and progress
  13. Inform students of centre aims and objectives
  14. Cooperate with the CM and DOS in ensuring the constructive communication and efficient operation of the centre
  15. Meet regularly with the DOS and/or centre colleagues to communicate all relevant information
  16. Assist the DOS upon request with the development and marketing of courses and induction of sales, service and teaching staff into the practices of the centre
  17. Maintain student and class records
  18. Assist in the placement testing and interviewing of new students
  19. Carry out teaching related responsibilities including, but not limited to demonstration classes, marketing activities, tutorials, seminars and presentations
  20. Attend centre social events
  21. Take on administrative work and/or projects including, but not limited to, cataloguing supplementary materials, giving workshops and organizing extra-curricular events, as directed by the DOS
  22. Keep the teachers’ room, equipment and resources well-organized and in good condition
  23. Be familiar with the administrative procedures employed in the centre and as directed by EF English First head office

Professional Development:

  1. Regularly evaluate own performance and progress
  2. Attend and participate in workshops in teacher development offered by the centre
  3. Observe and be observed by the DOS and senior teaching colleagues
  4. Be pro-active in improving teaching skills through sharing knowledge with colleagues, and using teaching resources found in the centre, EF Intranet, Internet and any other available sources

Working Hours:

This is a full-time (40 hours per week) position with a maximum of 20 teaching hours (non-peak) and 26 hours (peak season) + additional office hours for lesson planning, preparation and admin. Working hours are typically afternoons, evening and weekends, with all teachers having two consecutive days off per week.


  1. Applicants must be citizens from the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Ireland, Australia or New Zealand
  2. Bachelor degree
  3. 120 hour TEFL or other teaching qualification (or willing to obtain one) or 2 years post-graduate certificate
  4. Clean criminal background check, valid within 6 months – will need to be notarized

15 Month Contract

  1. Salary: 12,500RMB net per month (months 1-12)
  2. Salary: 12,000 RMB net per month (months 13-15)
  3. A monthly accommodation stipend 3,000 RMB
  4. Quarterly performance bonus: up to 2,000 RMB
  5. Flight allowance of 11,250 RMB for a 15-month contract
  6. Staff referral bonus of 5,000 RMB per teacher
  7. Fully legal work (Z) visa and residence permit
  8. Initial paid onboard training and continuous professional development program
  9. 22 days paid holiday (annually)
  10. Comprehensive medical insurance
  11. Free Mandarin lessons both face to face and online with a native Chinese teacher
  12. Airport pick-up and logistics support

24 Month Contract

  1. Salary: 11,000 RMB net per month (months 1-12)
  2. Salary: up to 13,000 RMB net per month (months 13-24, for 2-year contracts, an additional 0-1000RMB performance-based increase.)
  3. A monthly accommodation stipend 3,000RMB
  4. Quarterly performance bonus: up to 2,000RMB
  5. Flight allowance of 18,000RMB for a 2-year contract
  6. Contract completion bonus of 12,000RMB for a 2-year contract
  7. Staff referral bonus of 5,000RMB per teacher
  8. Fully legal work (Z) visa and residence permit
  9. Initial paid onboard training and continuous professional development program
  10. 22 days paid holiday (1st year contract), 24 days paid holiday (in the 2nd year)
