Gym memberships are often paid annually, ranging from 2,000RMB upwards. 2,000RMB in a Tier 1 city can get you a simple gym, swimming pool and changing rooms with evening classes for yoga and other group activities.
Apartment complex activities are mostly free, and depending on the one you live in, you may get services such as table tennis, pool, swimming and a gym. Gym membership will be a similar price to a gym outside of your complex but offer much more convenience for those 5am workouts. Swimming is a small cost usually of around 20RMB, opening in the months of July & August, the same time when all the students are not at school.
If you want to explore outside your city, hiking the five famous mountains is a great place to start. Alongside the bus costs to get from your city to the mountain, there are mostly entry costs of around 150RMB and if you’re feeling like the scenic view up, cable carts can cost around 80RMB for a single journey. However, if you go to the Huangshan Mountain in winter, you’ll be able to get free access to the mountain.
Some organisations offer planned trips where all you have to do is show up at a metro station and pay the one-time fee. These trips depend on where you go, but a simple day trip somewhere with the tickets paid for can cost you around 200RMB. The great benefit about these trips is that you’ll meet other like-minded people and have the benefit of making new friends. For these trips, you can do anything from white water rafting, hiking to glass bridge walks. We work directly with ‘ETravel Club’ to offer this service in and around Hangzhou.
